PRAN-RFL Group CEO dies





Major General Amjad Khan Chowdhury (Retired), the pioneer of agro processing in Bangladesh and CEO of renowned conglomerate PRAN-RFL Group, has passed away for old age complexities (Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun). He was at 76. Our beloved Amjad Khan Chowdhury died at the Duke Medical College of North Carolina of the USA at 7:15 PM (Bangladesh time) Wednesday. He had been suffering from cardiac arrest and diabetes.
A recognized entrepreneur, Amjad Khan Chowdhury, was undergoing treatment at the hospital for last one month. He left his wife, two sons Azar Khan Chowdhury and Ahsan Khan Chowdhury and two daughters Dr. Sera Haque and Uzma Chowdhury and numerous well wishers to mourn his death. The employees of the company expressed sorrow at the dead.
Ahsan Khan Chowdhury, Deputy Managing Director of PRAN-RFL Group, expressed deep condolence at the death of his father and sought dua to all walks of people of the country for his departed soul.
He said the body brought back to the country from the USA and then Amjad Khan Chowdhury would be buried at Banani Military Graveyard.
Amjad Khan Chowdhury, the founder of PRAN-RFL Group was born in Natore on November 10, 1939. He was the son of late Ali Kashem Chowdhury and Amatur Rahman.
He was educated at Dhaka and graduated from Australia Staff College. He joined Pakistan Army in 1956.
He got commissioned rank from Pakistan Military Academy in 1959. He held many important positions during his colorful life at Bangladesh Army. He retired from his post in 1981. The army person-turned-businessman started his business career in 1981.
He is the former president of Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Dhaka (MCCI), and Dhaka Stock Exchange, ex-director of Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL), founder-president of Real Estate & Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) and Bangladesh Agro-Processors’ Association (BAPA) and also a former president of Underprivileged Children’s Education Programme (UCEP).
Maj Gen Amjad Khan Chowdhury had played a key role in private sector through creating jobs. He is the pioneer in agro-based industry in the country. His innovative efforts toward the country’s development brought a huge opportunity in business sector.
